Viniyoga is the style of yoga currently returning yoga to it's individual, therapeutic roots.
A Viniyoga class typically includes 3 components:
1. a careful selection of asanas (postures) done dynamically (i.e. moving in and out repeatedly) then statically (i.e. holding);
2. breath adaptation (i.e. using specific breath patterns during throughout movement practice), as well as pranayama (seated, still breathing techniques), and
3. a meditation designed to connect the practitioner to a quality they desire to cultivate inside themselves.
These 3 components are sequenced together to create an experience suited to the individual practitioner (i.e. stresses function over form).
As they're designed to be therapeutic in nature, single classes or a class series may be designed around specific themes, such as alleviating physical conditions (e.g. low back pain, headaches), mental / emotional concerns (e.g. increasing focus, improving energy, alleviate stress, depression, etc.).
